Interview:
Fye Ent: Tell us about your background getting to where you are today?
Kenji: My name is Kenji Mitchell and I go by the name Kenji The Barber. I’m mostly known for giving out the craziest haircuts but recently known for dropping some heat in the booth!
Fye Ent: Where are you from?
Kenji: Hampton Virginia AKA 757
Fye Ent: When and how did you get into music?
Kenji: I’ve been into music since I was in middle school. I started making music when I was in college in my dorm room. My boy Mike( Mic C Craz) actually got me started on my first song when he would come over to record one of my roommates.
Fye Ent: What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?
Kenji: Moving on with life without my mom especially because I was young when I lost her so I really didn’t have a lot of time with her and for her to see my accomplishments.
Fye Ent: Are you currently signed or independent? Also, who inspires you the most musically?
Kenji: I am currently independent right now. Starting my label “In The Zone Records” soon! The one artist that inspires me the most and pushes me to be as great would be Drake.
Fye Ent: What do you want people to take away after listening to your music? Do you have any new music coming out soon?
Kenji: I want people to listen to me and enjoy the way I put together my music and the way I tell my story about my life! It might not be the most “gangster” but I am telling the truth in my songs. Yes, I will have an Ep or second “ Not Your Average Barber” tape coming in the fall.
Fye Ent: What is your greatest achievement as a musician?
Kenji: My greatest achievement would be earning over 100k streams on my latest project. “Not Your Average Barber”.
Fye Ent: Do you produce your own music? If not who do you work with?
Kenji: Yes, I write all my music no ghostwriters yet!
Fye Ent: Who is one artist you wish you could work with?
Some of the artists I wish I could work with will be Drake, Lil Baby, Kanye, Kodak Black, and have to work with Pharrell because he’s a Virginia native.
Fye Ent: What does a day inside your shoes look like? Is there anything else you want the audience to know about you?
I’m a Barber during the day and rapper by night. I’ve been doing a Lil bit of traveling to different countries in between working.
“I’ve been busy I’ve been working hard so don’t you hate on me”-Kodak
