Brewing in the heart of DC lies a talent like no other. MOC, or Mistake Of Color, has proven himself as not only a promising MC, but also as having a creative focus on making sure his musical expression is heard by as many people as possible. Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, it was not until he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina that he began to explore the endless windows that creative writing could open up for him. With a focus on songwriting, he adopted the stage name MOC, and the rest is history.
If I had to use one word to describe MOC, it would be: diverse. No same song sounds the same, which is incredibly refreshing in an era full of monotonous instrumentals and recycled bars. The kid is not afraid to experiment and truly put his vulnerability on full display.
In “Know About”, he speaks of the trials and lonely nights he’s had to face tenfold while on his difficult yet narrow path towards financial freedom. The standout lyric for me is the following: “And they act like I ain’t deal with real problems / ‘cause I came outta’ the suburbs.” Here showcases his authenticity, and how he’d rather be frank about his upbringing rather than fake a come-up story for likes and views.
There are plenty of examples like this layered throughout MOC’s music, but I’d rather for you, the listeners, to check them out and view them yourself. Not only has he been featured as a 2022 End of the Year Spotlighting Artist by Hype Magazine, but he’s proven himself as a force to be reckoned with.
